Documentation.

As I speak.. I probably have 5 minutes before the boys get up. I wanted to start writing anyway.

To start this blog.. here's where we are at:

June 22, 2017
Otto is 4, Micaiah 2, Danny 16 months, Abe is 7 months old.
We just bought and moved into our new home in Anthony, NM outside El Paso, TX.
We have 1.5 acres of green in the midst of the desert. Including a too big for us house that we plan on turning into a duplex. We will either rent out the "front 2 bedroom apt" or do it airBNB style. We haven't decided yet.  (Otto just walked in.. and there's Danny).

The homestead portion is growing. We currently have:
10 Rhode Island Red Hens
1 RIR Rooster
3 Tom Turkeys 2 bronze and one a mix  (1 set to be sold on Monday to a new contact)
1 Hen Turkey
2 House cats Bubba and Brother.
The orchard has been planted but is struggling in the heat. We have a mix of peach, pear, apricot and fig trees. We also already have some awesome ancient pecan trees that yield a TON of pecans in season. We've found a few native pomegranates on the property as well, we aren't sure if they are fruiting yet.
The next goal is to get the garden dug in. We have huge mounds of dirt and "compost" ready to be spread and mulched..

Soon to be added:
Momma and 2 kittens to be outdoor farm cats to help with the mice, lizards, snakes, birds etc.
Goats!! We have checked out some nigerians and head to another farm this weekend to check out some mini nubian/lamancha babies. I am super excited about this. Part of me wants to wait. The other part of me knows that even once we get them we'll have to wait long enough for them to grow, breed, kid and be in milk. I also know we've got lots of people who could come "farm sit" if we needed to go anywhere.

Projects to complete:
Turkey's need a permanent home in the barn
Goat pens need fencing and some infrastructure
Chickens need hay and roosts they will actually use. They are not fans of the ladder we put up.
The front Duplex kitchen still has some plumbing to do for the sink.
Every day I find a new light fixture that needs fixing.. switches, bulbs, etc.
Electrician needs to come out and figure out some wiring to the Mother In Law Apt.
